Offering a small but meaningful moment of connection

Laura Krul-Harris

For this TOY Project, I volunteered at a brunch organized through the “Outreach” Refugee Program at my local church.

This church is deeply connected to my family’s story. It is where I was baptized, where my parents were married, and where my own children were also baptized. Over the years it has remained an important place for our family. My grandmother was also involved here through “Outreach”, supporting people in the community who needed it most.

The brunch offers a simple but meaningful moment of connection. Around a shared table, refugees and volunteers can come together, share a meal and spend time talking. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, showing how small gestures of hospitality can create a sense of comfort and belonging.

Being able to volunteer this morning felt especially meaningful because of the personal connection I have to this place and to the program itself. It is a community that has been part of my family’s life for generations, and I hope to continue volunteering there regularly in the future.

Thank you so much Laura. Your grandmother must be smiling.

Love and TOY Monique
