2026 TOY Fellowship – Yanmei Xie

Asia Society Switzerland is delighted to announce that Yanmei Xie has been named the 2026 TOY Senior Fellow. A leading analyst of China's political economy and geoeconomic trends, Yanmei will bring her expertise to help Swiss audiences navigate the intersection of geopolitics and global markets and contribute to a better understanding of the forces shaping Asia-Europe relations and global economic trends.

Yanmei's research focuses on China's industrial policy, foreign economic strategy, and strategic competition with the United States and Europe. She assesses how rising geopolitical risks shape trade, investment flows, corporate strategy, and global supply chains – critical insights for policy makers, business leaders, and civil society alike. Previously, she served as a China policy analyst at Gavekal Research and as senior analyst and acting director of the China Project at the International Crisis Group. She began her career in journalism in Washington, covering U.S. politics and policy, giving her a unique perspective at the crossroads of media, policy, and economics. She is also currently a Senior Associate Fellow at the Mercator Institute for China Studies (MERICS).

As the 2026 TOY Senior Fellow, Yanmei will engage with Asia Society Switzerland's community through public events, expert briefings, and strategic commentary, allowing stakeholders to understand the implications of China's economic and strategic choices.

The TOY Senior Fellowship is generously supported by Max and Monique Burger and the "Thinking of Yves" family in Hong Kong, enabling Asia Society Switzerland to host world-class thinkers on Asia-related global developments. Yanmei Xie's fellowship strengthens our commitment to provide nuanced insights into Asia's role in shaping the 21st‑century world economy.
