The project itself is very simple. Movana is collecting expired passports and gives them a new life. She will shred them and 

knit them back together in a single piece. This will be performed and documented in video, as a way to express and enhance the depth of the work.

 

Why is this project important to her?

If the symbolism of shredding an individual passport, symbol of identity and nationality, and transforming it into a single piece composed of many, maybe hundreds, or even thousands of passports from all over the world, united 

and intertwined as one humanity, what I really want to say is: exactly this.

 

Can we look together, beyond the surface?

Movana Chen’s sculpture «Beyond the surface» will continue to be worked on over the coming years, for any future presentation of the work the piece will be credited: Burger Collection and the TOY family.
